On July 29, 2018, I set out with some girls I met through the FB Mtn Chicks hiking group to tackle Tent Ridge Horseshoe. This hike/scramble was INCREDIBLE!!! I’ll be returning to hike this one again in early summer and add it to my 52 in 52 challenge.
The weather was perfect. A nice warm (kind of hot) sunny day. A few clouds in the sky and unfortunately a little bit smokey. We were lucky to get this one in before the crazy forest fires blew in all of that smoke. I’m asthmatic so hiking in smoke is a no go for me.
We did this hike clockwise as recommended. I think this way is better so that you go up the scramble section not down it. You also get the summit of Tent Ridge out of the way earlier. There were a few parts of this hike where falling would result in some broken bones or worse. Definitely a moderate to difficult level hike. Not for the faint of heart and not for beginners or people afraid of heights or mega exposure. And definitely not a trail to hike in winter. Lots of avalanche paths, cornices and interesting things to delete yourself on.
This hike is very self explanatory and definitely pushed my hiking skills up a notch. There were a few parts that were scary for me but the girls helped me through it and I would just follow their scramble line up or around the sketchy parts.
All in all. One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever experienced. Kananaskis is a real beauty.
